First time use Maxxis tyres, has worn on front wheels. Can’t believe that tyres from budget class, for me a lot better than previous Uniroyal Rainsport 3. Quality to price, definitely recommended, probably will use again.
01.02.2019 from Richard
These tyres are quiet and grip well in the dry. They also brake well in the wet too and have good aquaplaning resistance. Fuel economy is fine too. However, on a wet road when going around a roundabout at anything over 25mph they loose lateral grip and the car slides sideways. If you push on the power then they completely break off and the car understeers. I am used to it now and drive gently but could be a bit dangerous for those who aren't experienced drivers. Also on cold damp roads they lose traction at low speeds when turning full lock in a manouvere, sending the ESP system off. I am disappointed because of this and won't buy again or recommend.
26.01.2019 from Alan
The worst fault i have found with these tyres are cornering. Even at relatively slow speed the vehicle slides, giving up grip rather easy. They remind me of a set of Falcons a purchased a few year back. Not good. Apart from that, an all round decent cheap tyre. Previous tyre i had on Accord were Michelon. A hard act to follow but at £185 a corner !!!!

Good quality.. did a few burnouts as well and they look just like new :)

Excellent driving experience on these tyres. They feel safe, sturdy and solid on the road in heat, heavy rain, slippery roads due to mud, country roads, uneven and good surfaces, I have not yet tried in snow or ice. To any walkers reading this, they feel like vibram soles for my car!
07.08.2024 from peter andrews
tyres only have well below normal 6.5mm tread from new and mine were worn down to 4.1 mm tread after 400 miles plus one developed a bulge. Worst tyres ever only have perhaps 1 years life

These tyres are good for grip and average for comfort, but let down on noise levels.

Nice Budget tyres with that wide and quattro drive its hard to say it lose a grip or brake bad.
02.05.2022 from Alan
Just put these on the rear of my car. The were fitted on a wet day when the roads were greasy. With the tyres being brand new I was expecting wheel spin when I put the foot down. Nope, not a bit, the tyres bit hard. Even on the motorway at 120 kph when I put the foot down I could feel the extra grip and push which added to the driving pleasure and thrill. I've tried spinning the rear wheels in the wet but they just seem to grip really well.

16.02.2023 from Alasdair
Fitted to the vehicle already when purchased.. They are an adequate budget tyre for perhaps city driving however they are poor in the wet. Lack any feedback in more active driving and in the wet have poor grip and braking performance with significant understeer in even damp conditions with even slightly 'active' driving. I've removed them off the car half worn and replaced with a premium brand as I'm not comfortable with their performance on mainly wet UK roads.
12.01.2023 from Ian
I bought these tires as a cheaper alternative to a Continental tire, because the grip in wet conditions was rated excellent. That seems to be true. This type of tire is designed for lower rolling resistance and increased fuel economy - often that comes with lower wet grip. Not in this case.
06.12.2022 from Yashwant
Always use this brand and model of tires. Because of its durability, and reliability. Best for me.
05.02.2022 from George "Warrior"
- Pretty good-short-braking and grip. In both wet and dry. Also, very good road feedback. - Comfort, economy, and quite tyres. With pretty good quality and price. - I will buy it again and again, for real. -Highly recommend it for me. 07.03.2019 from Umski
Bought these tyres based purely on the price and rating - they were replacing some very long lived Avon ZV5 tyres which are no longer made and have been replaced with a lesser alternative - I had gotten 37k (miles) over 5 years out of those so they were very good value. The Rotallas were half the price of equivalent 'branded' tyres but with a C rating for fuel and B for Wet Grip so on paper they were better. In reality I don't drive hard enough to notice, but grip feels good in the dry going round corners and fine in the wet although I am always a lot more cautious especially if there's standing water at speed to avoid any scary moments! Noise-wise it's nigh-on impossible to tell any difference to be honest! Only done about 2k (miles) so far and tread looks almost like new so hoping they last - also working on the assumption that they may outlive the car! Good value in my opinion :)
12.11.2018 from Denis Alabaster
Softish tyre so good cornering grip in dry, always careful in wet conditions as it is rear wheel drive and there would be tendency to lose the rear end if driven harsh in wet conditions.

15.08.2025 from Donald
These tyres are good value and perform safely and well when used within legal parameters on UK roads. One slight negative is road surfaces can sometimes make tyre noise quite high but other than that I will definitely buy them again.
12.09.2024 from Michael
The tyres were 7/10 when I got them, the wet straight line grip is great the dry performance is above average. Quiet and comfortable tyres. The tyre wear is poor, I had new arms, tie rods, drop links and bushings as well as alignment done afterwards. The tyres showed excessive wear on the edge after only 8000 miles. I always check tyre pressure every week.

Before i used different brands also michelin, continental, nexen, fulda, dunlop, waterfall, petlas. But this tyre is the best in price and performance. It is better than most premium brands in breaking on wet ground i have ever seen before. I also like to drive fast in corners. This tire gives me security even at over 200 km/h. It never slips and gives me a good feeling in every position. The consumption is great too. The consumption is high on the tire label, but is not noticeable in any way. I would buy this tyre again.

Very quiet tyres, very smooth comfort.
20.04.2022 from Irving Stewart
The MX5 Mk3 NC is generally regarded by enthusiasts as the worst handling of all the MX5's due to its extra height, weight, and suspension settings but I deliberately selected this particular version for its comfort, power folding roof, and pleasant ride. When first purchased the car was fitted with ridiculously wide [10"] rims shod with obscure American tyres. It handled like a pig, followed every white line, and a matchstick on the road felt like a small boulder. Fortunately I swapped the big wheels, with another enthusiast, and acquired a set of 16" Momo alloys. These wheels were shod with Falken tyres, two of which were almost new and two almost shot. The decision was whether to change tyre brand completely or see how the Falkens fared. The various MX5 Forums showed a wide range of differing views on the best tyres for my MX5, at hugely differing costs, so I decided as an experiment to stick with the with Falkens and subsequently fitted a new pair to the front. At this stage I should add that it has taken me three years to rebuild this MX5, it is probably my last car, and it is very rarely driven to its limits. Whilst I still enjoy a spirited drive around the enticing Welsh and Shropshire roads, and the occasional run to Essex and the South Coast, I gave up thrashing my cars when I retired from the circuits over 50 years ago! Today safety, comfort, and pleasure are my prioroties! Over three years the Falkens have performed well for "budget" tyres. In the dry they behave well, are quiet, and very predictable. In the wet they can be induced to loose grip [especially on the rear] but I have never had the front break away unexpectedly or in a dangerous manner. An over enthusiastic right foot will induce wheelspin when pulling away in the wet, even in town, but the Falkens soon regain traction. In the dry the rear can be induced to "hang out" but I have never had any major concerns about the car swapping ends. Some of the younger members of the MX5 fraternity have told me that [when run at higher pressure] the Falkens behave well on the track but wear quite quickly which is something I have not tried, and will not experience. Compared to the exhorbitant wear rate of far more expensive "leading" tyre brands experienced by my friends [some as low as 12,500miles per set] on far more recent premium cars, I am more than satisfield with the Fakens and will probably, eventually, replace them with the same brand.
02.03.2022 from Fi Hoang
Great tyres at a good price. Well Recommended.
05.01.2021 from John

Star Performer summer tyres – no compromises

The Star Performer brand belongs to the Taiwanese Nankang tyre empire. They bring extensive experience and expertise to the production of tyres, and have a reputation for producing cutting-edge products that perform like premium tyres. Intricate tread constructions and minimal aquaplaning are the hallmarks of the brand, as are the relatively competitive prices of the Star performer summer tyres range. And the brand’s diversity is impressive to boot!

Star Performer summer tyres to check out

For passenger or city cars, look no further than the TNG UHP1 tyre. The price tag is appealing, and the technology includes strong rubber compound and tread that provides reliable grip in dry and wet conditions. Reports suggest road noise is pretty low too, meaning you get a comfortable ride as well as a safe one. The SPTS AS tyre is usually sold as an all-season option, but as a summer tyre it scores very highly in all departments. Brilliant wet and dry grip, durability and handling score well, and the price tag is the icing on the cake.

There is a vareity of Star Performer summer tyres for many vehicle types. For drivers of SUVs or light vans, the Star Performer SUV 1 is a real highlight. In tests, it has demonstrated low rolling resistance and high traction even on difficult surfaces like gravel. The resistance to aquaplaning is a recognised safety feature, and you won’t find a cheaper tyre that delivers in so many ways. With a full set of the SUV 1 tyre, you will see great results in the performance of your vehicle.

Star performer summer tyres have wide tread patterns – what are the advantages of this?

  • Enhanced response and grip thanks to large tyre surface contact with the ground.
  • Cornering capability is superb due to evenly-distributed weight.
  • Road noise is minimised, resulting in a comfortable ride from start to finish.

Star performer has your wellbeing in mind

Star Performer keeps prices low and offers surprisingly good technology to deliver strong performance across the summer range. Whatever car you’re driving, Star Performer has something for you. At www.tyres-guru.co.uk we have great prices on Star Performer tyres, so you can reap all the budget benefits with mid-level tech and performance.
