Identify the size of your tyre
The exact dimensions of a tyre can be found on the sidewall printed mark. The graphic shows how to read properties and dimensions of the tyre:

SPEED INDEX:
The speed index indicates the maximum speed intended for the tyre. Up to this value, the manufacturer guarantees optimum operation with the appropriate tyre pressure. The maximum speed allowed for this vehicle is given in the vehicle owner's manual; this information can be used to select the appropriate speed index for the tyre. The speed index is the last mark on the sidewall of the tyre.
 
Load Index
Permissible maximum axle load per tyre in kg. To be found in the registration certificate or vehicle registration document or read directly from the tyre (two-digit number). It is permitted to fit a tyre with a higher load index.
 
Driving safety despite puncture
Runflat tyres are puncture-resistant tyres with reinforced sidewalls. This creates the so-called run-flat property. In the event of damage, this allows the vehicle to continue driving up to a distance of approx. 100 km (and even beyond depending on the product) at a maximum speed of 80 km/h, even if the pressure has been completely lost. Run-flat tyres even prevent the tyre rubber from jumping off the rim in the event of a loss of air pressure. A flat tyre is therefore still a flat tyre, but it loses some of its drama. Note: All run-flat tyres are marked with the symbol "RSC" (Runflat System Component) and may only be fitted in vehicles with a functioning air pressure control system!
 
Tyres with increased load capacity
Reinforced tyres are designed for higher loads than normal tyres. They can be identified by the designation 'RF' (reinforced) or also 'XL' or 'Extra Load'. They are used on vans, minibuses, off-road vehicles, etc. However, their mounting alone does not automatically result in higher load capacity but also requires a correspondingly higher air pressure. Furthermore, the load capacity index specified in the vehicle documents continues to apply.
 
Tyres with extra high load capacity
The "C" in the term C tyres stands for "commercial". These tyres are specially designed for commercial vehicles. These can be, for example, lighter trucks, delivery vans, flatbed trucks or panel vans. In other words: vehicles that have to move higher loads at a comparatively lower speed. The multi-ply reinforced C tyres are therefore even more load-bearing than reinforced tyres.
 
Mobility-optimised tyres
A tyre with a sealing layer on the opposite side of the tyre tread. In the event of a puncture (e.g. by a nail), this layer blocks any loss of air, even if the foreign body causing the puncture is still in the tyre. It is not necessary to stop or change the tyres immediately at the roadside.

Original equipment quality: optimum adjustment to the vehicle
Tyres with a special OEM marking on the sidewall, e.g. "MO" for Mercedes-Benz, were developed in cooperation with a specific car manufacturer and the tyre industry. These tyres have been homologated by the vehicle manufacturer and are a perfect match for a specific model. They have been specially designed to highlight or further improve the performance characteristics of the car in question, thus representing the culmination of a state-of-the-art fine-tuning process that perfectly complements the latest technological developments in the automotive industry. Tyres with manufacturer's markings can of course also be used on other vehicles.

Excellent driving experience on these tyres. They feel safe, sturdy and solid on the road in heat, heavy rain, slippery roads due to mud, country roads, uneven and good surfaces, I have not yet tried in snow or ice. To any walkers reading this, they feel like vibram soles for my car!

tyres only have well below normal 6.5mm tread from new and mine were worn down to 4.1 mm tread after 400 miles plus one developed a bulge. Worst tyres ever only have perhaps 1 years life

The tyres perform well. At that price I would expect no less. (But Michelins tend to cost even more than Continentals.) We don't get a lot of snow in Essex, England these days, but when we lived in parts of Germany where (at least then) it snowed in winter we always found Continental Winter Tyres performed well. And indeed I've left the winter tyres on for the summer this year. Partly through laziness. But also, low profile summer tyres look "cool" with alloy in the show rooms, but with all the pot holes and broken roads here in England, slightly thicker tyres on (slightly smaller) steel rims offer better resilience (and comfort). Economy penalty must existnotably inrespect of fuel, but appears very marginal as long as the tyres remain fully inflated. Which (so far) they do without frequent top-ups. Though I appreciate that reading what I just wrote makes me sounds very old. Ainsi soit il. And it still feels odd to be asked to review Winter Tyres in June.

These are great winter tyres which I run all year round ( living in rural Wales). The problem is getting them in the size I need. I generally have to order at least 3 months before I am going to need them so this review is actually for the tyres I bought two years ago and which still have about 5000 miles (8000 km) wear left. The original summer tyres fitted to the car when I bought it new only lasted 25000 miles so these Continentals actually represent good value for money - and they don’t skid on muddy farm tracks in summer. I had a puncture and the runflat function worked well. But these tyres cannot be repaired by the usual method and there was no chance of getting a new pair of tyres in this size (have to replace in pairs on this car). My only option was the ‘slime’ injection which has worked perfectly. No loss of pressure over the last 5000 miles.

A much more balanced and user friendly tyre than the Pirelli winters they replaced which were supplied by BMW. Less tramlining. More precise grip and steering yet also more comfortable ride. Unable to accurately comment on fuel consumption as I haven’t monitored it that closely. Snow use not really tested this winter in the UK so can’t comment with any true experience.

The most expensive conti's I've ever purchased (x4) Ouch!! I've bought a lot of other conti's in the past. Inc Sportcontact & Uniroyal tyres. Ecocontact5 are noisy, very average grip levels in wet & dry conditions. Poor wear levels for a so called eco tyre :-( Neither do I like the feel of them during cornering. I will not buy these budget/mid range level tyres again. I really don't have anything positive to say about these tyres. Apart from when I'm going to change them. Buy another mid range tyre instead or even a budget & save money ;-)

I drive mostly in the city at low speeds however when taking to motorways in the UK I drive at 70MPH and in Europe at 75MPH. The drive is smooth and fuel economy is excellent, tyre wear is good and noise levels within the car is minimal.

Excellent safe and fun. You need to give warning when it won’t arrive for weeks before the customer pays though. I was stuck without something suitable. It’s not acceptable.

These tyres won Autoexpress winter testing award and it's easy to see why, I've driven in deep snow with no loss of grip or skidding. I hate snow but these have given me a new level of confidence. I've never failed to get to work or home. The only problem I have had is other road users blocking roads with summer tyres or low profile tyres on. Yes they cost more but they are worth it. I have tried other brands but find these the best. I buy two each year which I put on the front and the older ones in the back, with no loss of traction.

Firstly, I cannot comment on what they are like in snow as where I live in the UK had one snowy day this winter. I look on winter tyres as like insurance: I pay for them but hope I never have to use them much. They did absolutely fine in the wet and sub-zero conditions which I did encounter and I felt safe having the right tyres for the conditions. This is not my first set of Contis and won't be my last.

These tyres are the dogs. No snow or ice this year to leave feedback. After 6 months driving over the winter months, and 3600 km's, the wear was only 1mm on the back, and 1/2 mm on the front. Truly outstanding. I won't need to change these tyres for years. Well done Continental.

Great grip. No problems driving in snow & ice, even going up hills. Felt like driving in normal road conditions. Previous winter, before I changed to winter tyres, car had no grip whatsoever, couldn't even manage a slight incline. Continental winter tyres are amazing, money well spent!

Firstly, I cannot comment on what they are like in snow as where I live in the UK had one snowy day this winter. I look on winter tyres as like insurance: I pay for them but hope I never have to use them much. They did absolutely fine in the wet and sub-zero conditions which I did encounter and I felt safe having the right tyres for the conditions. This is not my first set of Contis and won't be my last.

These tyres are the dogs. No snow or ice this year to leave feedback. After 6 months driving over the winter months, and 3600 km's, the wear was only 1mm on the back, and 1/2 mm on the front. Truly outstanding. I won't need to change these tyres for years. Well done Continental.

Great grip. No problems driving in snow & ice, even going up hills. Felt like driving in normal road conditions. Previous winter, before I changed to winter tyres, car had no grip whatsoever, couldn't even manage a slight incline. Continental winter tyres are amazing, money well spent!

I thought about trying to get a refund. They make a terrible rumbling noise is one or two psi off optimum. Never had a tyre do that before.
