Winter tyres - for a save driving on snow and ice.
The "M + S" (or M & S, MS) marking can currently be found on winter and all season tyres. Besides this marking, a snowflake symbol can be found on some models. The M + S tyres that have the snowflake symbol meet the higher quality standards. Since 2011, winter tyres are mandatory in Ireland. Having a special blend of rubber that resists to low temperatures, these tyres are more adapted to winter conditions than the summer tyres. Therefore, the car will have a good grip even dealing with low temperatures. The optimised profile reduces the risk of hydroplaning and provides a good grip in snowy and icy conditions. Identify the size of your tyre
The exact dimensions of a tyre can be found on the sidewall printed mark. The graphic shows how to read properties and dimensions of the tyre:

SPEED INDEX:
The speed index indicates the maximum speed intended for the tyre. Up to this value, the manufacturer guarantees optimum operation with the appropriate tyre pressure. The maximum speed allowed for this vehicle is given in the vehicle owner's manual; this information can be used to select the appropriate speed index for the tyre. The speed index is the last mark on the sidewall of the tyre.
 
Load Index
Permissible maximum axle load per tyre in kg. To be found in the registration certificate or vehicle registration document or read directly from the tyre (two-digit number). It is permitted to fit a tyre with a higher load index.
 
Driving safety despite puncture
Runflat tyres are puncture-resistant tyres with reinforced sidewalls. This creates the so-called run-flat property. In the event of damage, this allows the vehicle to continue driving up to a distance of approx. 100 km (and even beyond depending on the product) at a maximum speed of 80 km/h, even if the pressure has been completely lost. Run-flat tyres even prevent the tyre rubber from jumping off the rim in the event of a loss of air pressure. A flat tyre is therefore still a flat tyre, but it loses some of its drama. Note: All run-flat tyres are marked with the symbol "RSC" (Runflat System Component) and may only be fitted in vehicles with a functioning air pressure control system!
 
Tyres with increased load capacity
Reinforced tyres are designed for higher loads than normal tyres. They can be identified by the designation 'RF' (reinforced) or also 'XL' or 'Extra Load'. They are used on vans, minibuses, off-road vehicles, etc. However, their mounting alone does not automatically result in higher load capacity but also requires a correspondingly higher air pressure. Furthermore, the load capacity index specified in the vehicle documents continues to apply.
 
Tyres with extra high load capacity
The "C" in the term C tyres stands for "commercial". These tyres are specially designed for commercial vehicles. These can be, for example, lighter trucks, delivery vans, flatbed trucks or panel vans. In other words: vehicles that have to move higher loads at a comparatively lower speed. The multi-ply reinforced C tyres are therefore even more load-bearing than reinforced tyres.
 
Mobility-optimised tyres
A tyre with a sealing layer on the opposite side of the tyre tread. In the event of a puncture (e.g. by a nail), this layer blocks any loss of air, even if the foreign body causing the puncture is still in the tyre. It is not necessary to stop or change the tyres immediately at the roadside.

Original equipment quality: optimum adjustment to the vehicle
Tyres with a special OEM marking on the sidewall, e.g. "MO" for Mercedes-Benz, were developed in cooperation with a specific car manufacturer and the tyre industry. These tyres have been homologated by the vehicle manufacturer and are a perfect match for a specific model. They have been specially designed to highlight or further improve the performance characteristics of the car in question, thus representing the culmination of a state-of-the-art fine-tuning process that perfectly complements the latest technological developments in the automotive industry. Have tried lots of different snow tyres over years and put these on my 3 series touring to replace the Pirelli zero’s. If anything I thought they ran quieter than the zero’s and plenty of grip in both dry and wet conditions. Used the in snow as well and kept everything moving which is all you want from a snow tyre.

As my Volvo is a rear wheel drive automatic I always use winter tyres. Previously had Goodyear ultra grip 9 and still have them on the front. New Goodyear ultra grip 3 on rear. We're great in the recent snow, where front wheel drives were getting stuck, no doubt on summer tyres.

Just avoid, unless you live in Finland or something. Driving in WET and Dry, just terrible grip and I have a 4x4 Subaru with LSD. It's shocking really. Unless you drive really slow, it's OK then, but come roundabout they just don't grip doesn't matter wet or dry. Good in snow, but it should be at least good in wet as well and OK in dry, but It's crap in both wet and dry, so not good for me, will not buy again.

I didn't get these on until Feb/Mar when worst of the weather had passed. Driven on main roads & motorways at temps between 3°c and 16°c in mixed weather without problems. Obviously they were less responsive at the higher temps but never felt dangerous. No sign of wear at all. Dry road grip when accelerating lost traction a bit too easily but cornering was predictable.

My car is the 90Hp 1.6TDI, CAYB engine and 5 speed transmission. I return on average 65mpg with these Fulda winter tyres on - no drop off from the summers [they were not good summers that came off it]. I drive on UK A and B roads in Shropshire, Herefordshire which are very agricultural with lots of pot holes. I killed a Fulda front tyre in 100 miles as I missed a huge pot hole at night at 50mph, the tyre did not burst but it egged - luckily I bought 6 tyres expecting a problem as the roads are horrendous and the tyres 40 series so too low profile for where I live. I drive to purposely avoid pot holes, but still catch them - the tyres and rims have survived unscathed since. I suspect they are slightly noisier than the summer but only on some road surfaces. Grip is very good in wet and predictable in the dry - not an ultimate grip tyre BUT here is my point, it appears to me on a very low power and lightweight car [1,200kg] to provide very consistent grip regardless of road surface which is what I want. Great grip in wet mud and standing water also. I would recommend for a good general tyre. I've done about 5,000 miles on them so far and wear even at 10degC is fine.

Although a "Winter" tyre they are a good all rounder mud & snow. Tyre wear is obviously not as good "summer" tyres and other tyres may be better for high speed autoroute driving.

car car The Pilot Alpin PA4 is an excellent tyre. The tyre size is 265/30 - 20 and was used on the rear axle of my Alpina B3 GT Touring. I have used this tyre on my previous car, Mercedes AMG E63s Estate. I would have preferred to have bought Pilot Alpin 5 tyres, but they are not available in this size.

These tyres perform superbly in winter conditions, and are my go-to winter tyre, reviewed on a Quattro S5, but I've used the same tyre on a RWD C250, and they were great on both (even more essential on the RWD car in the cold, in fact). They provide top-tier grip in all cold conditions, and are only slightly noisier and slightly 'harsher' (more bumps) than the summer tyres on the car, which is good going for a winter tyre. They are pricey, but wear well, I have used them for a full winter season, and they will do several more. Well worth the investment in my opinion.

Bought for winter driving into Italian Alps. Always felt confident and never slipped once on snow or rain. Range does decrease a little with the Tesla which may be a combination of software range prediction and actual range reduction due to factors like rolling resistance. The latter to be expected with Winter Tyres

I changed from SuperSports to Alpine P4A's because I live in a hilly area in the country, and in the winter mornings it can get dicey going down the hill. Although I never used these in full on snow, during the winter months I never once had any scary moments like I would normally. I also noted that at motorway speeds these handled rainfall and taking standing water at speed much better, although not as good as the other car's all seasons tires since these are far wider. I would recommend them, however I would note that you do lose some steering feel at the limit of corners, and off the line traction on hotter days (7c+) was compromised compared to normal SuperSports. A worthy trade-off for the morning and storm confidence in my opinion.

There was an error with my address, the courier got a mixed of and different address which dose not exist , and therefor could not deliver my tyers . I am still waiting for any response to the investigation into where my tyers are from mytyres , at the recommendation of the courier . In short I had to use the deteriorating winter tyres I fortunately still had , which performed perfectly adequately for the duration of what winter we had .

This was the second time I have purchased this set of winter tyres. Winter 2023 I drove across Czech republic where a heavy snowfall suprised us on the way. With those tyres absolutely no problem, felt safe.

Tyres have performed well so far it's still early January so haven't been able to test their performance in the snow yet but they feel reasuring in the wet the car needed tyres when we brought it so a wear comparison will be difficult but I expect then to wear quicker than standard tyres as the compound is bound to be softer on a winter tyre

When I purchased my vehicle (preowned) it came with Nexen tyres on all four corners. I had to change the two front tyres after a few years and choose Goodyears. Last year I had to change the front tyres again because the Goodyears had worn considerably, whilst still having the same Nexens on the rear of the car since I purchased it. Hence stick with the Nexens. When I need to change the rear tyres I will definitely choose Nexens.

I would like to say that these tyres saved our bacon this winter. We had lots of snow and ice over January and February this year and the tyres never lost an ounce of grip. Even when others were stuck and lost in snow drifts, the Scout got through. I was concerned about the wear of the tyres (bring softer than summet tyres but there was little wear showing on the Winter Tyres). Highly recommended for high speed road driving or off-road snowdrifts!

Smooth driving. Lowered noise levels compared to other snow tyres purchased in the past. Good speed rating(driven through Germany on Autobahn) Good grip on wet roads/motorway

The tire behaves excellent on both dry and wet roads. Especially on snowy/icy roads it does its job really great. It's a truly price/performance tire and would definitely recommend to buyers.

Noisy piece of crap. Above 110km/h changes your vehicle into vibrating boat you cannot steer safely on highway. First and last Goodride (Westlake) that I ever purchased. Avoid that chinese garbage!

Fine in most conditions though slightly more wallow. Excellent grip on icy roads truly amazing grip in snow!
