The new Nokian Rotiiva AT (All Terrain) rolls effectively both on and off the road. This sturdy, special tyre guarantees optimal performance without compromising safety or driving comfort. It completes the versatile SUV and 4x4 range from Nokian Tyres. Rotiiva AT is excellent on asphalt or gravel, but also moves with ease in lighter off-road conditions. The sturdy structure and tailored, cut-resistant tread compound give the tyre excellent durability when used with heavier cars, as well. The comprehensive selection of sizes is aimed at light trucks, larger SUVs, and pick-ups. The aggressive tread pattern of the new product, and especially its wide, polished grooves maximise grip and handling in rapidly changing summer conditions. Thanks to a unique tread pattern, the tyre also cleans easily and runs effortlessly on a soft platform.
Steady going: The smooth, fluent driving is boosted by the centre rib stabilisers that stiffen the tyre. The driver feels this in the excellent driving stability and quick steering response. More stability is added by the 3D sipes that actively bind the pattern blocks together upon road contact. The heavily siped pattern block sections support each other. Unnecessary sipe movement stops, which further improves handling. Cooling ribs in the shoulder area improve the durability of the Rotiiva AT, which is a tyre that enjoys poor roads and suddenly changing conditions. Lower heat generation means slower wear, more comfortable driving, and more mileage. Stone ejectors on the bottoms of the grooves minimise the penetration of sharp rocks into the tyre. The stone ejectors further increase the operating life of the tyre by preventing tyre body damage, especially when driving on uneven surfaces.
Tailor-made style and safety: The side surfaces of this eye-catching and massive product are different. This means that you can tailor the outlook to suit your tastes upon installation: a more rugged appearance for off-road terrain, and a more stylish and toned-down look for the road. Nokian Tyres' patented Driving Safety Indicator on the tread surface improves safety and driving comfort. Retail sales of this sturdy and versatile new product will begin in the spring of 2012 on Nokian Tyres' core markets.
ARAMID SIDEWALLS – Robust like never before
Nokian tyres with Aramid sidewall technology offer you additional security and durability for demanding weather conditions and rough roads. Their incomparably strong sidewalls are exceptionally resilient to wear and cuts. The Aramid fibres stiffen and strengthen the sidewall, enabling it to withstand blows and cuts even better.
The same material is also utilised in the aviation and armour industries. It is also used successfully in bulletproof vests.
Aramid protects the Nokian tyres. The Nokian tyres protect lives.
EU Tyre Label and Efficiency Classes
The European Union has introduced the EU Tyre Label by Regulation (No. 1222/2009) identically and bindingly for all EU member states. It applies to passenger car tyres, light commercial vehicle tyres and heavy commercial vehicle tyres produced after 01.07.2012.
Three different areas are tested: rolling resistance, wet grip and the rolling noise the tyre makes on the road.
The following are not affected by the EU Tyre Label: retreaded tyres, professional off-road tyres, racing tyres, tyres with additional devices to improve traction such as spiked tyres, T-type emergency tyres, special tyres for fitting to vehicles first registered before 1 October 1990, tyres with a maximum authorised speed of 80 km/h, tyres for rims with a nominal diameter of 254 mm or less or 635 mm or more.
With this regulation, the European Union is pursuing the goal of promoting economic and ecological efficiency in road traffic as well as increasing road safety on the one hand, and on the other hand, granting consumers more product transparency and at the same time serving as an active decision-making aid.
Already during the incorporation, experts criticise the fact that the EU Tyre Label unfortunately only shows a few product characteristics. Apart from rolling resistance, wet grip and rolling noise, which are the main focus of EU tyre labelling, tyres have much more important and safety-relevant product characteristics, such as aquaplaning properties, driving stability, service life, braking properties on dry and wet roads, behaviour in wintry conditions, etc.
Tyre manufacturers point out that test results from various institutions and journals remain an important information medium for the end consumer. These tests usually focus on further safety-relevant product characteristics besides the EU standard qualifications for tyre labelling, which are always important for the final customer.
