Michelin Pilot Sport 4

Excellent steering control and high level of reactivity

«Dynamic Response» Technology: a hybrid belt of Aramid and Nylon ensures optimum transmission of steering instructions onto the road. An ultra-reactive Tread Pattern Design, coming from motorsport experience (Formula E, WRC), adapts continuously to the road, for optimized footprint on the road.

High level of safety on wet roads

A new mix of compound with specific “functional elastomers” and hydrophobic Silica provides excellent wet grip and braking. Wide and deep longitudinal grooves ensure a high level of drainage on wet roads.

Michelin’s excellence in longevity

Coming from co-operation with emblematic car manufacturers and from MICHELIN motorsport experience.

The MICHELIN PILOT SPORT tireline is co-designed with the most demanding car manufacturers (BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche). The tread pattern design comes from motorsport experience.

Lasts 7 340 km longer than Continental Sport Contact 5 tyre (1)

(1) Tests carried out by DEKRA Test Center in April 2015 on Golf 6, with 225/45-17 94Y/W XL tires and in July 2015 with 225/40-18 92Y XL tires. The CONTINENTAL Sportcontact 5 tyre covered 7.340km less than the MICHELIN Pilot Sport 4 tyre.

EU Tyre Label and Efficiency Classes

EU Tyre Label and Efficiency Classes

The European Union, under CE 1222/2009, has mandated that all tyres manufactured after the date of July 1 2012 for cars and commercial vehicles include standard EU Tyre Labels classifying them by three performance characteristics:fuel efficiency classified from A to G,wet grip classified from A to G, and noise emission in decibels.

Categories of tyres unaffected by this regulation include: retreaded tyres, professional off-road tyres, racing/sports car tyres, as well as certain types of tyres designed to improve traction such as studded tyres, T-type temporary spare tyres, tyres for cars built before 1990, tyres with a maximum allowed speed of 80km/h, tyres for rims with a diameter less or equal to 254 mm or greater or equal to 635 mm.
This label is intended on one hand to promote economic and ecological efficiency in traffic, as well as increase road safety, and on the other hand to help consumers select appropriate tyres by ensuring a certain degree of product transparency.

Nevertheless, the label has been criticized for only showing a very limited number of characteristics. Professionals argue that tyres have many more features that are important and relevant to road safety, including but not limited to aquaplaning properties, driving stability, service life, product properties on wet and dry roads other than wet grip, properties on snow.
Tyre manufacturers suggest that the test results from various institutions and industry magazines should remain a very important source of information for the end consumer, because they focus on and rate a wide variety of tyre properties and features.

safety is number 1 for me when I’m driving my bmw so I need the best possible tyre out there so for me PS4 is the best
30.09.2018 from John Blackwell
Fantastic tyres, from the way they look (curved profile, always makes them look more stretched than they are and lower profile) to the way they perform. Very forgiving with potholes and poor road surfaces of today. Incredible performance in the wet - just feels like the dry! Tyres do need to have some heat in them before they perform - below 8degress ambient they really do! If you use these tyres do switch to a winter (especially with BMW). Deal really well with big heavy cars and changes of direction, they are great tyres and I recommend all the time to people. Great wear considering performance. They cost a little more than competitors but they outlast - I really give mine some hammer tbh and I will still get 15000 miles out of them. Please be warned that these tyres are hugely sensitive to tyre pressure - I have never experienced this really on a road car / tyre but it's true. At first I was worried these weren't as good as pilot sports I had in the past (I actually found them only as good as my Alpines winter tyres) but it turned out it was just tyre pressure. If one or two drop 2 psi you know about it. Buy these tyres - they will make you smile , first time it rains they will make you smile even more

Michelin – we take you further.

The vision of our founders, Edouard and André Michelin, has guided the development of the MICHELIN brand for more than 125 years: making driving as simple, safe, and comfortable as possible – first with innovative tires and wheels, followed by road maps, travel guides, and contributions toward improving traffic infrastructure. Along with this comes a strong engagement with the environment, as modern mobility must be sustainable and not detrimental to the environment.

Each year the Michelin Group produces more than 178 million tires in 68 production facilities in 17 countries, and it operates sales networks in more than 170 countries. The product offerings are many: from bicycle, passenger car, truck, motorcycle, and tractor tires, to tires for 5-ton earth- moving machines. Michelin employs 111,700 people worldwide and owns one of the oldest, most famous trademarks in the world – the legendary Michelin Man.

Targeted development: MICHELIN Total Performance

In the development of new products, Michelin faithfully pursues the concept of "MICHELIN Total Performance", backed by the rigorous standard of always bringing together a number of performance characteristics into a tire, to achieve optimal results. We follow this philosophy not only in the development of our standard products, but also in motorsports. Numerous technical innovations help to relieve burdens on the environment, drivers, and businesses. Hidden out of sight in tire casings, tread designs, and rubber compounds, throughout their lives MICHELIN tires show their full potential: they offer excellent grip, long life, and reduced fuel consumption thanks to their low rolling resistance.

To better understand the conditions which tires are subjected to in everyday use, in the summer of 2014 Michelin began a unique research project – the Road Usage Lab. Vehicles from 3,000 drivers in Europe were equipped with special measurement devices to record data about the tires' use. These valuable findings are being employed in the development of future tire models, making them better suited to the needs of real drivers.
